Relationship Advice
Lending a good ear to hear...
Did you know that the best relationship advice you can give to a person is to have them listen to their partner? Too many times do we fail from actually listening to what the other person has to say about their problems, desires, and needs in a relationship. This type of relationship advice can go far - especially if the other person has a good ear to what their partner has to say.
Here's some helpful relationship advice on good listening:
- Showing that you care is by listening. If you tend to be the talker in the relationship, take a moment to hear what they have to say rather than constantly voicing your opinion. A good relationship is a balanced one, with both partners having a good say on things.
- Set aside fifteen minutes a day with each other every day to 'update'. If you have a busy life, it can seem like time wasted, but make sure concerns are aired and you understand each other. It really can avoid problems down the line.
- To show you've listened - perhaps the best piece of relationship advice - repeat back what you've heard or ask a focused question. This shows them you understand and sympathize.
- When you are listening, aim to make your partner the center of attention. Turn to him or her, look at them, and put other thoughts aside until they have finished speaking.
- Use positive body language to acknowledge what they are saying or nod and smile (but in a convincing way, of course). They'll feel better appreciated and therefore more likely to listen to what you have to say next.
Relationship advice
So remember, the next time you and your partner are having a spat, take a moment to ask them how he or she feels about the situation and listen to what they have to say. It's perhaps the best relationship advice there is.
