Romance Tip

Being romantic might seem elusive to you if you don't have any idea about what romance should be. There are your basic romantic gestures--flowers, candy, love poems or letters--but to do something really romantic, you need to know your significant other really well.

The Best Romance Tip
The best romance tip we can give you is to know your mate! Find out what his or her favorite things are and use that to create romance. This was actually one of the topics on the season premier of Joey last night. Joey had a one-night stand with his landlord and friend, and she was embarrassed the next day because she isn't "that kind of girl." She explained to Joey that usually a man has to romance her a while before that happens. Joey's first idea of romance was taking her to his bedroom and drinking wine out of champagne flutes, then "making out." Obviously, this didn't go over well with her. His next attempt at romance was one that many men think is necessary, and usually appreciated by most women--he gave her candy and flowers. He also gave her an orange. (We can't explain that one.) Most of the time, flowers and candy are going to be met with much gratitude. It is a sweet, romantic gesture. However, this girl wanted something even deeper. She gave Joey a Billie Holiday CD, an episode of "Judging Amy" that "really spoke to her" and her favorite book so he'd get an idea of things she likes. As a result, he set up a rooftop dinner, complete with candles and a Billie Holiday CD playing in the background. We cannot stress enough that Romance Tip #1 is to know your mate!

This romance tip doesn't only apply to men. Women can do the same sort of thing. For example, a girl named Julia wanted a romantic idea for her husband for Valentine's Day that didn't involve a gift. But she didn't need a romance tip--she knew his favorite pizza place was in Chicago. Since they didn't live anywhere near Chicago, she went to the web site for the pizza place and found out she could have one of their pizzas frozen and delivered via FedEx. The reheating instructions were on the web site. So she ordered one, and the person taking the order said that she could get the pizza made in the shape of a heart. So she did. It was a huge success!

So you can see that being romantic requires forethought and creativity, but it really can be done. Use your best romance tip--knowing your lover.
